Four Humors, Four Suits, and Forty Cards; A New Way to Quickly Generate Random Character Traits.

Forty Character Traits, Arranged According to the Four Temperaments

A quick trait generator the sake of easily generating character traits for quick character generation, whenever you need to figure out how the new hirelings or your new set of 0-level characters going to the grind will act. I recommend for quick character generation to draw three cards from a playing-card deck to generate the traits the character will have. If the traits contradict each other, then either contrive a reason why they act hypocritically, or discard one of the contradicting cards and draw anew.

The same may be done in the case that you feel the results are redundant.
The suits and ranks for both French-style and Italian-style(in this case Neapolitan) playing cards are listed here. The "face" cards in the 52 card deck are ignored, if you want a rule for use of the "joker" card, then treat it as any trait you desire the character to have that isn't present on the table below.

If you do not have access to playing cards, then you can roll using a 1d4 and 1d10, the d4 representing the suits, and the d10 the ranks, re-rolling repeated traits whenever they come up.

If you're generating traits for a Dungeon Crawl Classics style level 0 meat-grinder rather than for an individual character, then I recommend putting previously drawn cards in the discard pile so that the same cards are not drawn repeatedly.

*Only applies while in beast form
**Constitution modifiers cease to apply
Congratulations, you’re cursed. Either you or one of your ancestors angered the gods enough for them to cause you to turn into a malformed parody of humanity and beast at times least convenient. You can look forwards to a long lifetime of alienation and exclusion, being deemed a threat to civilization, and hunted down when the nobility decides they’ve had enough of you.

In the meantime you can try and manage the powers and bloodlust the gods have thrust upon you.

Abilities:

Sons of Lycaon are no different from normal men outside of their periods of transformation, they do not receive their Armor Class bonus, Attack Bonus, Climb Skill, nor their claw or bite attacks. They only receive them when they turn into beasts.

The process of transformation takes one combat round of inaction to go either from man to beast or vice versa. The transformation is violent and will result in armor and clothing being tattered due to the difference in form between metamorphoses. Chain and leather armor will be split and provide no protection in beast form, plate armor will come apart at the joins, potentially leading to suffocation if it is a full suit of plate armor.

The process of transformation can be induced easily going from man to beast, but the other way around is difficult. To induce the transformation from beast to man, and hunger for violence must be sated. The beast must strike down foes with a number of hit dice equal to his own before transforming back. If he has not killed that many by his own hand yet, he will begin to seek out new foes.

While the Lycanthrope is in his beast form, there can be no action except the hunt for prey to sate the thirst for violence.

If the Lycanthrope in beast form hasn’t had his fill of violence within 24 hours of transformation, then he will become further enraged; the number of hit dice needed to be defeated is reset.

Outside of that, regaining human form may be done with an ability check, rolling under intelligence on a 1d20. This check can be done once daily.

Lycanthropes cannot use weapons in beast form, any weapons held that are not stuck on the Lycanthrope’s hand are discarded immediately.
The Lycanthrope receives many benefits in combat from the beast form. He receives two claw attacks and a bite attack. The claw attacks are done rolling a d16 rather than a d20. These attacks will increase in damage as the Lycanthrope gains levels. The Lycanthrope gains a bonus to his attacks in beast form as a dice roll that is rolled alongside each attack roll.
The lycanthrope gains an armor class bonus in addition to any applicable dexterity bonus’ he may possess.
In addition, while in beast form the Lycanthrope gains an increased climb skill according to his level.

If the lycanthrope has his curse lifted, then he becomes a fighter of the same level.
